Food Plant Cleaning Services in Toronto & GTA
Few operations carry sanitation stakes like a food plant — one slip and you're looking at a recall, not a complaint. Bluestone Janitorial delivers HACCP-aligned, allergen-aware cleaning for food production facilities along the 401 corridor through Durham — Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington — and on into Scarborough, North York and the wider GTA. Owner-run, so the standard you're promised on the quote is the one that walks through your door.

Sanitation Programs for Food Processing Facilities
Cleaning a food plant is a documented process, not a visual result. A production floor that looks clean and a production floor that passes an audit are different things, and the difference is written evidence: which surfaces were cleaned, with which product, at what concentration and contact time, by whom, and when. A sanitation program that cannot produce that record is a liability regardless of how the floor looks.
Product selection is the constraint that makes food environments different from every other industrial site. Anything touching a food-contact surface is limited to approved products applied at approved concentrations, with a potable rinse where the product requires it. General-purpose degreasers that are perfectly appropriate on a warehouse floor are not appropriate on a conveyor, and a crew that does not know the difference is a recall risk.
The physical work is sequenced around production rather than dropped into a gap. Dry pick-up first, then controlled wet cleaning that does not aerosolise soil into adjacent zones, then sanitising, then a documented pre-operational check before the line restarts. Drains, floor–wall junctions, overhead structures and the undersides of equipment are where environmental sampling finds problems, so those get scheduled attention rather than being caught incidentally.
Facilities split roughly into two types, and we scope them differently. Primary processing and packaging plants are covered under food plant cleaning in Toronto; manufacturing floors and packaging halls that run in batches between changeovers are covered under food manufacturing cleaning in Toronto. Commercial kitchens attached to restaurants and food service are a third case entirely — see commercial kitchen cleaning in Toronto and restaurant and food-service cleaning.
Non-production areas still need covering, and are usually the part that gets forgotten in a plant contract. Offices, QA labs, lunchrooms and change rooms run on the standards under office cleaning programs, warehouse and dispatch space under warehouse cleaning in Toronto, and whole-room disinfection between runs or after an incident under our fogging and disinfection service.
- Documented sanitation schedule with product, concentration and contact time
- Approved products only on food-contact surfaces, with potable rinse where required
- Dry pick-up before wet cleaning to avoid aerosolising soil
- Scheduled attention to drains, floor–wall junctions and overhead structures
- Pre-operational checks recorded before the line restarts
- Separate scopes for production, warehouse, lab and office areas

In food production, cleaning is a critical control point — not a cost.
The Bluestone Difference
A contamination event halts the line, then it brings a recall, a shutdown, and brand damage you may never fully undo. We treat cleaning in your plant with exactly the seriousness your QA team brings to it — documented protocols mapped to your HACCP plan, done the same careful way every shift. Dependable enough that your quality manager stops worrying about it.

How We Work
Our Food Plant Cleaning Process
HACCP Plan Review
We review your HACCP documentation to understand your critical control points and cleaning requirements.
Zone & Surface Assessment
Every zone is classified — food contact, non-food contact, and non-production — with appropriate cleaning standards assigned to each.
Chemical & Method Approval
All cleaning chemicals are reviewed against your facility's approved chemical list and safe-use requirements.
Scheduled Cleaning Execution
Cleaning proceeds according to your production schedule — never compromising food safety timelines.
Swab-Ready Sanitization
After cleaning, surfaces are prepared to meet the residual limits your food safety team requires before testing.
Audit-Ready Documentation
Every clean is logged with times, chemicals used, and surfaces covered — ready for your CFIA or third-party audit.
Client Voices
Durham Food Producers Who Trust Bluestone
Our CFIA audit last year singled out our sanitation records as exemplary. Bluestone's documentation is detailed and consistent — exactly what an auditor wants to see at a Whitby plant.
Allergen changeovers are high-stakes for us. Bluestone built a protocol thorough enough that our QA team goes into every allergen-free run with real confidence.
Three cleaning contractors in ten years, and Bluestone is the first that actually understands food manufacturing — not just cleaning. We've recommended them to another Oshawa producer already.
FAQ
Food Plant Cleaning — Common Questions
What plant and QA managers ask before changing sanitation providers.
Do you provide cleaning records for audits?
Yes. Every visit produces a record of what was cleaned, with which product at which concentration and contact time, by whom, and when — plus the pre-operational check before the line restarts. That record is the point of the program, not an extra.
How is a food plant different from a commercial kitchen?
Scale, sequencing and product restrictions. A plant runs documented sanitation between production runs across a whole floor; a kitchen is degreasing and sanitation between services in a much smaller space. Kitchens are scoped under commercial kitchen deep cleaning.
Can you clean between production runs rather than during a shutdown?
That is the normal arrangement. We work changeover windows and zone the facility so wet cleaning in one area does not affect an active line in another. cleaning for food manufacturing facilities covers how batch-run facilities are scheduled.
Do you cover the offices and warehouse as well as production?
Yes, on one contract with separate written standards for each area — production, warehouse under warehouse cleaning in Toronto, and the office side under office cleaning programs.
